As mentioned on my last post, a LOT has happened in the last 4 years. I’ve changed careers, had a baby, bought a house and much more in between!
Let’s start with the family stuff. My husband and I decided to try for baby #2 – 11 years after having our son. It all started when I cam across a Facebook post of a little chocolate girl with long, beautiful natural hair. My exact words to him were, “I want one…”. He looked at me and asked if I was serious and I replied”…I think so.”
I have always been perfectly happy with having only one kid. I was totally fulfilled and I knew that as long as I kept him alive until he moved out of my house I would have succeeded! But I could not stop thinking about this little girl and how much I had inside me to pour into her. So we agreed that we wanted to try and made an appointment with my long-time OB/GYN. Little Ms. McKenzie Dawn Barnes was born March 3, 2020 – on my grandmother’s birthday and we brought her home March 6th, the day before the world shut down due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
She has been the absolute joy of our lives. She is strong, sweet, brave, stubborn, sassy, wicked smart and everything I would want in a daughter. Ethan is the most loving and thoughtful big brother and he’s almost more protective of her than we are. Ethan is also a teenager now and his going into his last year as a middle schooler. *mind blown*. He is still my sweet little bear and still finds his mom to be cool enough to hug and kiss (even in public). He’s at the age where he’s testing his limits and parenting is getting interesting, but overall he’s a great kid and still has his innocence. Lord knows in this world, I want him to hold on to that for as long as possible.
In November 2020, we tested the market and made the decision to buy a new house. We sold our old house and closed on our new home in 45 days! I will tell anyone who will listen that it was no one but God who orchestrated that entire process. The home we purchased, we didn’t think we could afford (that was a lie) and we sold our old home for much more than we anticipated (blessings on blessings). We are so grateful to have a home that our kids can grow up in, that we can host our family and friends and that we are so proud of! I feel like a for real grown up y’all! 🙂
OK – so now that the family front is covered please enjoy just a few candid shots from over the last few years. The Barnes Family 4 is force to be reckoned with!
