In Houston, we thought cold days were behind us, but a cold snap came to town and gave me one more opportunity to don a cozy sweater! I had been eager to purchase some items from The Loft’s new plus size range and ordered a couple of pieces to test the waters. My first selection was the Floral Embroidered Cross Back Dress in a beautiful tomato red hue. The fabric is a rayon/nylon blend but feels similar to linen and is perfect for warm spring/summer days.
Before I go any further, I need to let you know that I have a tummy and a significantly large bust. This makes me extremely picky about the way straight cut dresses fit on my body. When I tried the dress on it was tight in the bust and was too short. It pretty much fit like a tunic. To say I was disappointed is a understatement. When selecting my items I used the sizing tool provided on the site and ordered my size according to the response received. I love the dress so much that I plan to exchange it for a larger size and see if it works. Stay tuned!
Although spring is here, I cannot resist a cute, cozy sweater. The graphic stitching and the dramatic puff sleeve on the Con Amore Sweater sent me over the edge! Once I tried on the dress, I have to admit I did not have high hopes for the sweater. My assumptions were correct when I slipped the sweater over my head and discovered that it also was too short in the torso, but I loved it so much I was trying to find a reason to keep it! I batted my eyelashes and asked my hubby for his opinion and he said he liked it. That was all I needed! I came up with the idea to pair it with my favorite pleated black skirt and an ankle bootie.
As far as the Loft is concerned, I would like to see the plus sizes in stores so I could ‘try before I buy’. For now, I will exchange the dress and see if the bigger size works. When a brand has sold only straight sizes, they tend to sell the plus sizes online and that makes me feel some type of way. I can’t speak for every plus size woman, but I like to try things on before I spend my money! Do they not want plus size women taking up space in their storefront? Do they believe this would offend and deter their original customer base and lose them for good? Why does the size range even need to be differentiated? Just add more sizes to the rack…there’s no need to add more square footage and designate a Plus Size section. Plus sized women are just women. We want to be stylish, feel beautiful, and accepted just as our straight-sized sisters? Why is that mindset so hard to shift?
Anyway, when/if I exchange the dress I will report back. At this point I don’t know that it’s worth it! If you have tried out the plus size line at The Loft, let me know in the comments your experience!
Peace & blessings,
